The 66th Annual Grammy awards started out with shocking surprises from when the nomination list which was released in Nov 10 2023 to the actual winners of the Grammy Awards 2024.
Here are seven shocking revelations from the Grammy Awards ceremony that was aired live on Sunday night at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena
First– Minaj has been nominated for a total of 12 Grammys since 2011, but she sadly hasn’t won one Grammy just yet, making her one of the most-nominated artists without a win.
Second-Miley Cyrus won her first two Grammy awards on Sunday evening for her smash hit “Flowers. Cyrus wins record of the year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit single “Flowers.”
This is coming after having a total of six Grammy nominations.
Third– Davido, Ayra Starr, Burna boy, Tems and Asake all nominees lost the Grammy awards to 22 years old Tyla for the Afrobeat category. The South African singer was nominated and won the Grammy Award for her hit single “water”. This however, aroused some controversy about the song, “water”, whether it is really an Afrobeat song or not.
The song, “water”-, however is an Afrobeat tune which blends pop, R&B, Afrobeats, and amapiano in its sounds with a catchy dance choreography that resonates well with the Genz audience. Hence its high demand , popularity and reproduction.
Fourth– JayZ keeps it real as he points out that Beyoncé has had more Grammys than anyone but continuously been denied “Album of the year” Grammy Award. He received his 24th Grammy Award since his career in music. He however, used the trophy as a wine jar for the occasion. Lol
Fifth– Jayz receives his own Grammy award with his 12 year old daughter, Blue Ivy. This is the first time that he accepted the award alongside his daughter.
Recently, on January 21, 2023, Blue-Ivy Carter joined her mother onstage to sing “Brown Skin Girl” for the first time, as Beyoncé performed at a private show in Dubai. Beginning May 26, 2023, Carter joined the Renaissance World Tour as a dancer and danced to “My Power” and “Black Parade” with her mother.
Sixth– Celine Dion made her first appearance in a long time as she presents the “Album of the Year” award to Tailor swift!
Dion revealed in December 2022 that she’d been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome and would be postponing tour dates due to the condition. In May 2023, she canceled her remaining tour due to the disorder and shared that she was still being treated for it.
She was looking stunning, healthy and beautiful in her new looks.
Seventh: Taylor Swift wins Album of the Year for the 4th time. This is making her the only artist to have even the album of the year four times.
